Upgrade a server or virtual server

Upgrade a server or virtual server

To upgrade your server to Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, run Setupsts.exe. Running Setupsts.exe upgrades your server and the default virtual server. If you have additional virtual servers to upgrade, you can upgrade each virtual server individually by using the upgrade operation with the Stsadm.exe command-line tool.

How?

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
  2. Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\60\Bin folder.
  3. Type stsadm.exe -o upgrade -url <URL>, where <URL> is the URL of the virtual server you want to upgrade.

Extending a virtual server that is already running Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions

If you have an existing virtual server running FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions that you would like to upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services, you must uninstall FrontPage Server Extensions and then extend the virtual server. If you wish to preserve the content from your FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions-based site, use the smigrate.exe tool to migrate the content to your new Windows SharePoint Services-based site before uninstalling. For information on smigrate, see About migrating Web sites.
