Most tasks that you can perform from the HTML administration pages can also be performed from the command line for Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services. In addition, there are several properties you can set from the command line that you cannot set from the administration pages. For a complete list of commands and properties, see the Windows SharePoint Services Administrator's Guide.
You can also get a list of the command-line operations by typing stsadm.exe -help on the command line. Syntax help for specific operations is available by typing stsadm.exe -help <operation name>.
