Rich Text Editor Button Summary

Use the Rich Text Editor to add formatted text, tables, hyperlinks, and images to the Content Editor Web Part. The tasks you can perform and their corresponding buttons are summarized below.

The Standard Toolbar

Button imageCutRemoves the selected text, table, or image and places it on the Clipboard.
Button imageCopyCopies the selected text, table, or image to the Clipboard.
Button imagePasteInserts the contents of the Clipboard at the insertion point, and replaces any selection.
Button imageUndo Reverses the last command or deletes the last entry you typed.
Redo buttonRedoReverses the action of the Undo command.
Button imageFindSearches for the specified text.

You can search for whole words only, or text that might also be part of a larger word. For example, if you only want to find the word "this", select Whole word matches only; To search for “this” and “thistle”, clear Whole word matches only.

You can also specify if you want to search from the current location of the insertion point either to the beginning of the content, by selecting Up, or to the end of the content, by selecting Down.

Show borders imageShow/Hide GridlinesShows or hides table and cell borders for tables or cells that don't have borders (HTML border attribute = 0) so you can more easily see the table or cell.
Button ImageInsert HyperlinkInserts a new hyperlink at the selected text, or edits the selected hyperlink.
Insert Picture buttonInsert ImageInserts a picture at the insertion point. You can enter a file path or hyperlink in Picture Source, and alternate text to display when you hover over the image.

In the Alignment drop-down list, you can select a variety of ways to align the image with surounding text.

Bottom or Baseline Align the bottom of the image with the baseline of the text.
MiddleAlign the middle of the image with the baseline of the text.
TopAlign the top of the image with the top of the largest item in a line of text.
LeftAlign the image with the left margin, allowing text to wrap around the image.
RightAlign the image with the right margin, allowing text to wrap around the image.
TexttopAlign the top of the image with the top of the surrounding text.
AbsmiddleAlign the middle of the image with the middle of the line of text.
AbsbottomAlign the bottom of the image with the bottom of the line of text.

You can also specify border thickness, horizontal spacing, and vertical spacing. Valid values range from 0 to 999.

Insert Table buttonInsert TableInserts a table at the insertion point. You can specify the number of rows and columns, a table caption, and additional table and cell HTML attributes.
Button imageInsert RowAdds a table row above the table row containing the insertion point.
Insert Column imageInsert ColumnAdds a table column to the left of the table column containing the insertion point.
Insert Cell buttonInsert CellAdds a table cell to the left of the table cell containing the insertion point.
Merge Cell button imageMerge CellCombines the contents of two or more selected and adjacent table cells into a single table cell.
Split Cell imageSplit CellDivides the selected table cell into two table cells.

Formatting Toolbar

Button imageStyleInserts a text style, which is a set of formatting characteristics you can apply to selected text to quickly change its appearance.
Label controlFontChanges the font, font style, font size, effects, and color of the selected text.
Button imageBoldBolds selected text if it is not bolded, and un-bolds selected text if it is already bolded.
Button imageItalicsItalicizes selected text if it is not italicized, and removes italics from selected text if it is already italicized.
Button imageUnderlineUnderlines selected text if it is not underlined, and removes underlining from selected text if it is already underlined.
Button imageHighlightAdds background color to the selected text, or removes background color if the selected text already has background color.
Button imageAlign LeftAligns the selected text, table, or image to the left edge of the content.
Center text buttonCenterCenters the selected text, table, or image.
Button imageAlign RightAligns the selected text, table, or image to the right edge of the content.
Left-to-Right buttonLeft-to-RightConverts the direction of the selected text, table, or image, including the reading order, alignment, and overall layout, to a left-to-right orientation.
Right-to-Left buttonRight-to-LeftConverts the direction of the selected text, table, or image, including the reading order, alignment, and overall layout, to a right-to-left orientation.
Numbering buttonNumbered ListCreates a numbered list for the selected text if it's not numbered, and removes a numbered list from the selected text if it's already numbered.
Bullets buttonBulleted ListCreates a bulleted list for the selected text if it’s not bulleted, and removes a bulleted list from the selected text if it's already bulleted.
Decrease indent buttonDecrease IndentShifts the selected text, table, or image to the previous tab stop.
Increase indent buttonIncrease IndentShifts the selected text, table, or image to the next tab stop.
